Privacy Policy for WireGate

Last Updated: October 30, 2025

Overview

WireGate is a privacy-first smart home and IoT controller application. This privacy policy explains how WireGate handles your data and respects your privacy.

Our Privacy Commitment

WireGate does NOT:

  • Collect, transmit, or store any personal data on remote servers
  • Display advertisements
  • Include analytics or tracking services
  • Share your data with third parties
  • Require account registration or authentication

WireGate IS:

  • Completely local-first
  • Open about its functionality
  • Designed to respect your privacy

Data Storage and Processing

Local Data Storage

All data in WireGate is stored exclusively on your device:

  1. Button Configurations: Your custom shortcuts, including URLs, HTTP methods, headers, and authentication credentials, are stored locally in your device's private app storage using Android SharedPreferences.
  2. VPN Profiles: If you configure WireGuard VPN profiles, the configuration files and credentials are stored locally using Android's secure storage mechanisms.
  3. Execution Logs: Request history and execution logs are stored locally on your device and never transmitted elsewhere.
  4. App Settings: All application preferences and settings remain on your device.

Data You Control

  • HTTP Requests: When you trigger a button, WireGate makes HTTP requests directly from your device to the URLs you configure. These requests are sent to your endpoints only and are not routed through any WireGate servers.
  • VPN Connections: If you use the VPN feature, WireGate establishes a direct WireGuard VPN connection from your device to your VPN server. No intermediary servers are involved.

Permissions

WireGate requests the following Android permissions for functionality purposes only:

Network Permissions

  • INTERNET: Required to make HTTP requests to your configured endpoints
  • ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE: Used to check network connectivity before making requests

VPN Permissions

  • VPN Service: Required to establish WireGuard VPN connections when configured
  • FOREGROUND_SERVICE: Keeps VPN connections active while in use

Optional Permissions

  • NFC: Only used if you enable NFC trigger functionality (optional feature)
  • NOTIFICATION: Used to show feedback for actions and VPN connection status

WireGate never uses these permissions to collect or transmit your personal data.

Third-Party Services

WireGate does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.

Platform Integrations

WireGate integrates with standard Android platform features:

  1. Android Auto: Configuration is synced locally between your phone and Android Auto interface. No data leaves your device.
  2. Wear OS: Button configurations are synced locally between your phone and smartwatch. No data is transmitted to external servers.
  3. Google Assistant / Voice Shortcuts: Voice shortcuts are created locally on your device using Android's built-in App Actions framework. Voice processing is handled by Google's on-device or cloud-based voice recognition (per your device settings), but WireGate itself does not process or store voice data.

Data Security

Local Security

  • All data is stored in your device's private app storage, inaccessible to other apps
  • VPN credentials and authentication tokens are stored using Android's secure storage APIs
  • No data is transmitted to WireGate servers or third parties

Network Security

  • HTTPS requests respect your certificate validation settings
  • You have full control over which certificates to trust
  • VPN connections use WireGuard's cryptographically secure protocols

Data Sharing

WireGate does not share, sell, or transmit your data to anyone.

The only network communications initiated by WireGate are:

  1. HTTP/HTTPS requests to URLs you explicitly configure
  2. WireGuard VPN connections to servers you explicitly configure

These communications are initiated by you, controlled by you, and sent directly to your endpoints.

Children's Privacy

WireGate does not collect any data from anyone, including children under 13. The app is designed for technical users configuring home automation and IoT systems.

Your Rights

As all data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control:

  • Access: All your data is viewable within the app
  • Modification: You can edit or delete any configurations at any time
  • Deletion: Uninstalling WireGate permanently deletes all app data from your device
  • Export: You can export your button configurations as JSON files
  • Portability: Exported configurations can be imported on other devices

Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy is updated, the "Last Updated" date at the top will be modified. Continued use of WireGate after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
